Erasmus+

Erasmus+ is the European Union programme for education, training youth and sport. It offers mobility and cooperation opportunities for young people, students, teachers and staff in higher education, vocational education and training, school education, adult education, youth activities and sport. Over three decades, more than 9 million people have participated in the programme.

Erasmus+ also promotes partnerships and exchanges of practice among institutions and organisations, that enable them to develop common tools and activities to improve teaching, training and learning, and to fulfil their missions more effectively.

The programme also supports cooperation projects and policy development activities to strengthen organisations’ capacities, enabling them to gain experience in international cooperation, exchange practices, network and foster innovation.

The international dimension of Erasmus+ supports academic and youth mobility as well as institutional cooperation between the European Union and the other regions of the world. These activities match the priorities of the EU’s cooperation policy. They help the EU’s partner countries worldwide to improve and modernise education, training, youth and sport policies and practices, and strengthen the links between the European Union and the rest of the world.

Between 2015 and 2020, over 265000 people, in the framework of 5900 institutional cooperation projects, were involved in Erasmus+ global exchanges: about 165000 people moved to the EU from other world regions and 100000 moved from the EU to other regions.

Erasmus+ has a total budget of about €26.2 billion for the period 2021-2027, of which €2.2 billion for international actions.

The programme places a strong focus on social inclusion, the green and digital transitions and on promoting young people’s participation in democratic life.
