2022Citizen-friendly language – how clear writing can help adapt bureaucratic language to public needs
Organised by Directorate-General for Translation
Description
Bureaucratic language by public authorities has always been an issue. Complicated and incomprehensible texts drafted in an impersonal and passive style can deter the public and lead to a delay in handling citizens’ requests, which can increase costs. Clear writing can be the solution to this. It helps draft more comprehensible and approachable texts that leave less room for doubt, thereby saving time and money. We have invited four expert writers from Germany and Austria to share their expierence with clear writing for public authorities and answer questions from our participants.
