A Passage to Asia
Virtual Art Exhibition “A Passage to Asia: 25 Centuries of Exchange between Asia and Europe” March – December 2021
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), the European Union in partnership with the Centre for Fine Arts-Brussels (BOZAR) and the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) launched the exhibition “A Passage to Asia: 25 Centuries of Exchange between Asia and Europe”, which will be online until 2022.
The digital exhibition presents a selection of objects from a retrospective previous exhibition organised in Brussels back in 2010. It brings together 18 artefacts from 15 countries, highlighting 2,500 years of exchange between the two continents. Based on the available data and photographic material from the previous collection, high-tech designers created 3-D images of the exhibition objects. To share deeper knowledge about each artefact, labels, audio and visual material have been provided, which would allow the visitors to contextualise each artefact featured under the different themes. With the 360˚ 3-D experience, visitors can navigate through the exhibition in an immersive atmosphere. The exhibition can also be viewed through VR using VR accessories.
The exhibition serves as a testimony to the historic commercial and political networks developed over centuries between Europe and Asia, both on land and sea. It illustrates continued mobility and longstanding cultural exchanges between our two continents, reminding us of the importance of the Europe-Asia relations.
