Keeping the tradition – second EU ALUMNI reception during EU simulation in Seoul

In keeping with tradition, the EU ALUMNI Initiative, EUPOP South Korea and the EU Delegation to the Republic of Korea hosted again an alumni reception on the occasion of the Model European Union (MEU).

The MEU is a simulation of the decision-making processes within the Council of the European Union and aims at increasing understanding of the EU's institutions and processes among students. Like last year, the simulation was implemented together with the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and accompanied by Jean Monnet Professors that are experts in the field of European Studies.

Current and former participants of MEU simulations in South Korea, as well as alumni from other EU funded programmes like Erasmus+, GCRP and Jean Monnet attended the reception.

On behalf of the EU Delegation, the alumni were welcomed by Mr Patrick Polacsek, Programme Manager for EU Policies and External Relations. He emphasised the importance of EU Alumni as bridge builders and multipliers in today’s complex and interconnected world, in which a close cooperation between countries and people would be necessary to overcome global challenges. After these introductory words, Ms Raphaela Kühn, the Team Leader of the EU ALUMNI Initiative, presented the project and informed the alumni about the upcoming Online Community, an exclusive social network for former participants of EU funded programmes.

During the reception, EU Alumni and EU representatives used the time to exchange, discuss and get to know each other better.

The Republic of Korea is one of the eleven pilot countries of the EU ALUMNI Initiative. If you are an EU Alum in Korea and are interested in our activities, just subscribe and stay tuned!
