On the twin occasions of the 10th anniversary of the European External Action Service (EEAS) and the 45th anniversary of the Delegation of the European Union to Canada, the EU Delegation is pleased to launch the Schuman Challenge essay contest for university students in Canada.

Schuman Challenge Canada 2021

The three laureates of the Schuman Challenge will be offered a study visit of European institutions in Brussels with flights (from Canada), hotel and stipend covered by the Delegation (study visit to take place in 2022, conditions permitting).

The Challenge is open to university students at all academic levels. To participate, please write a short essay answering the following question: The European Union – a global power? If not, what does it need to become one?

Please send your essays to the following email address by 19 September 2021: delegation-canada-pol@eeas.europa.eu

Essays can be written in either English or French and should not exceed 5 pages or 2,000 words (bibliographies extra). Two copies of the essays must be submitted, one in Word and one in PDF format. In order to be eligible, participants must be registered students of a Canadian university. Submissions must be accompanied by a short CV mentioning current studies. Only submissions meeting all the requirements will be considered by a jury composed of diplomats and professors.

The results of the Schuman Challenge will be announced on 29 October 2021 on the occasion of the Ateliers Schuman organised by the Jean Monnet Chair on European integration at the Université Laval.

Good luck!
